Ilan Ramon 1954-2003
Tnuat AM expresses its deepest sympathy to the families
of the seven astronauts who died aboard the Columbia
spaceship. We share the wishes of STS-107

and refers to immigration to Israel.... Oleh (Olim)
immigrant (s) to Israel, literally, one who has "ascended"....Tnuah
— Movement....AM — means "people"
and is also the abbreviation for Aliyah Masortit....
Tnuat Am —"Movement of our People"
and also "Movement for Aliyah Masortit"....Shaliach
(m), Shlichah (f) — an emissary or representative
from Israel serving in communities outside of Israel....Mercaz
— means center and thus MERCAZ
USA, the Zionist organization of the Conservative
Movement, tries to keep us "centered"....
Olam — means world, and thus MERCAZ Olami
is international MERCAZ...Hevrat Mofet —
ideal society....Tikun Olam...."repair of
the world" (social action)....refuah shlaymah
— lit. complete recovery or "get well"....klal
yisrael — lit. the total community of Israel,
but refers to the solidarity of the Jewish people...Mishloach
Manot — in Yiddish is Shlach Mones,
refers to the sending of small gifts of food and drink
on Purim
